Dysphagia is the inability to swallow food.
Causes
The most common reason for dysphagia is untreated dental disease. However, rabbits that are hypothermic (body temperature under 100°F) will also be resistant to swallowing.
Treatment
If due to dental disease, surgical treatment and pain medication will be indicated for treatment.
If due to hypothermia, the rabbit should be slowly warmed up with external heating pads and warmed IV fluids until they return to a normal body temperature (between 101-104°F).
